Heritage & Appearance

White Leghorns first arrived in North America in 1852, brought by Captain Gates, with additional imports arriving in Boston the following year. During the 1870s, the breed was further refined in England through selective breeding before returning to the United States in the early 1900s, where it became one of the most influential breeds in the commercial egg industry.

The breed is also widely recognized as the inspiration for the famous Looney Tunes character Foghorn J. Leghorn, adding a touch of pop culture history to this remarkable chicken.

Temperament & Hardiness

White Leghorns are active, alert, and energetic birds that enjoy having plenty of space to roam. They are excellent foragers and are well suited to free-range environments.
